St. Luke 14:16-20: And Jesus said: “A certain man was preparing a great banquet and invited many guests. At the time of the banquet he sent his servant to tell those who had been invited, Come for everything is now ready. But they all alike began to make excuses. The first said, I have just bought a field, and I must go and see it. Please excuse me. And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I’m on my way to try them out. Please excuse me. Still another said, I just got married, so I can’t come.

God’s invitation is the most important event in our lives. It should not be treated as trivial.  Scripture instruct us to “Seek the Lord while he may be found, call upon him while he is near (Isaiah 55:6). Don’t let indecisiveness , or what you may view as bad timing cause you to miss having a relationship with the greatest Being in the universe – God Almighty.

Tuesday

Romans 1:20 – “For the invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”

In a court of law, physical evidence is compelling  proof for determining the guilt or innocence of a defendant. God’s creation offers conclusive, unquestionable and irrefutable evidence for His existence. A person’s decision to reject God is both deliberate and intentional; and not because of any lack of evidence. David said it best in Psalm 19:1 – “The heavens declare the glory of God.”  This emphasizes that the universe itself – its skies, its stars, and celestial order acts as constant testimony to God’s greatness and craftsmanship.

 Wednesday

Judges 6:14,15 – “And the Lord looked upon him, and said, go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites; have not I sent thee?  And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? Behold my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

Often our background, those we associate with, and even family members, can have a profound  influence in our answering God’s call to accomplish a colossal feat in our life.  Gideon did not believe he was qualified even after God said he would use him to save Israel from the Midianites. Read the 7th chapter of the Book of Judges and see how God used Gideon to defeat an army many times larger than his. I am reminded of the words of Elisha to his servant in the Book of 2nd Kings 6:16 – “Fear not; for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.”  Today, remember that with God on your side, you are always in the majority.

Thursday

St. Matthew 25:24,25 – “Then the man who had received the one talent came. Master, he said, I knew that you are a hard man, harvesting where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. So I was afraid and went out and hid your talent in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.”

In the 26th verse, this servant is called “wicked and slothful.”  God has given to all of us talents and abilities that are unique to his design and purpose for our life on this side of eternity. It has been said that the richest plot of land is in the cemetery; for this is where so many unfilled dreams and talents are buried. Make use of your God given abilities while you have the opportunity. They are of no use in the grave!

Friday

Revelation 3:20 – “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with me.”

No doubt you have seen an artist depiction of Jesus standing at a door and knocking. What captures our attention is the fact that there is no knob on the outside; it is on the inside. The door represents our heart, and the knob on the inside represents that it is our decision to open the door and let Jesus in. He wants us to decide whether or not we want Him in our life.  He is knocking at your door today; why not let Him in!
