Greetings and welcome once again to the Signature Word podcast. This is for the week of Monday, May 25th, 2026. Today we begin with part two of our series entitled David and Goliath. And our text for this episode will be taken from the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, chapter 17 and verse number 33, where it says, And Saul said to David, You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him, for you are a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. In our last episode we were introduced to Goliath, the Philistine warrior. His presence on the battlefield shifted the odds in favor of the Philistines. His presence alone was so intimidating that according to verse number twenty four it says and all the men of Israel, when they saw the man fled from him and were dreadfully afraid. What makes this one of the Bible's most often told stories is the triumph of good over evil, of the underdog over the favorite, and of faith over might. Today we look at the first two of three attributes David possessed that helped him in facing and defeating Goliath. The first attribute is that of courage. Each day requires the courage to face our Goliaths. Courage is defined as bravery, fearlessness, confidence, to persist in the face of threat or danger. Courage is the engine that pushes us beyond our safety and our comfort zones to encounter the challenges we have not yet mastered and sometimes ones we haven't anticipated. You don't acquire courage running from conflict or standing on the sidelines. You must get in the action. In verses forty five and forty six of the seventeenth chapter, David said to Goliath, You come to me with the sword, with the spear, and with the javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you and take your head from you. And this day I will give the carcasses of the camp of the Philistines to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, and all the earth may know there is a God in Israel. David's courage stemmed from the assurance that God was with him and that no opponent is too mighty, and no battle is greater than the power of Almighty God to deliver. This courage is developed through action, not running away from the battle, but running toward the battle. The second attribute is that of memory. David went forth in the memory of God's power and deliverance as in former days. David had not forgotten how God enabled him to defend and slay a lion and bear when they attacked his sheep. David had confidence that God had not changed, that the same God who was with him then would be with him now. You and I must equally remember and hold on to what God has said in his word I will never leave you nor will I forsake you. This is the promise he has made to those who place their trust in him. And as the saying goes, you can take this to the bank. Join in next Monday, june first, as we continue with part three of this series and discuss the third attribute David possessed that enabled him to successfully face and defeat in Goliath. And now our weekly signature thought learn from the mistakes of others. You'll never live long enough to make them all yourself. May God bless you.
